How to use the popular YouTube videos tool
When you open the page, a basic chart and an expanded list of various fields are loaded in order. You can narrow it down by actual YouTube category, excluding music, and the number of subscribers and views. Show more results displays the list of 30 items you've already received and requires no additional API requests.
Example usage
Select Korea and the United States respectively to see popular lists in those regions. When you select Music or Games, it will only show you that category from the currently received list. Click View on YouTube to go to the original video.
Please note
The default popular chart is a maximum of 100 and 2 hour caches. Retrieving more from various fields supplements the search for recently posted videos by field over the last 7 days, and after removing duplicates, up to 400 videos/24 hours are cached. This does not refer to overall YouTube ranking or recent increase in views.
Step-by-step instructions
- When you open the page, you will see the basic chart first, then automatically replenished with an extended list of different fields. Country change also shares the same server cache.
- Check the YouTube category on the card and select Exclude Category or Music. This filter requires no additional API requests.
- Apply the upper subscriber limit and lower limit on the number of views simultaneously and further narrow it down to title and channel keywords.
- View more results expands the received list by 30 items. Compare up to 3 videos and view the original on YouTube.
Popularity list and trending rate are different information
The default list is YouTube's mostPopular chart. The expanded list shows search results for people/blogs, entertainment, know-how/style, education, science/technology, and sports for the last 7 days available in that country, sorted by fixed search terms in that language and basic relevance. Country setting does not only refer to the nationality of the video creator or the number of views from that country. Language preference also does not guarantee the language of your search results. The listing order is a navigational order that mixes results by category and is not an overall YouTube ranking or your own surge score.
| Displayed items | Meaning |
|---|---|
| List order | Order returned by API in selected region/field |
| Views | Cumulative number of views disclosed at the time of collection |
| Posted date | When the video was released |
| Keyword search | Search within up to 400 currently received |
| Video Category | Actual classification of YouTube video metadata, not assumed by title |
Frequently Asked Questions
Is this the same list as the Trending videos tab?
This tool uses the mostPopular list from the YouTube Data API. We do not guarantee that it matches the recommendations/charts screen of the YouTube app or your personal popularity list.
If I enter a search term, will it search all over YouTube?
Keyword input only works within the currently received list. Only when you click Load more from various fields, the server searches for videos from the last 7 days in the 6 designated fields. Search results are limited to a maximum of 50 per field and are not capable of finding all videos or all small channels.
Is the video with the most views always on top?
The default chart is the order of the API responses, and the extended list is the order of display of results by discipline. Views and subscribers sorting only works within the current list and does not create an overall YouTube ranking.
What should I do if the video does not appear?
A list may be unavailable for a country or category. Try All categories. Service errors and quota limits are shown as status messages, with no fabricated replacement videos.
How do I find videos with few subscribers but high views? See
Apply the subscriber upper limit and the view count lower limit together. If there are few results, expand the list by loading more fields or adjust the conditions. Private and unprovided channels are excluded from the subscriber conditions. Public subscriber counts are rounded down to 3 significant figures and cumulative views are different from recent increases.
