Check before use
- For posts with character restrictions, check the space inclusion/exclusion values together.
- For pasted lists, keep the original and then remove duplicates.
Check the length of application text
Check whether the submission form counts spaces and whether its limit is in characters or bytes. Paste your draft into the character counter and compare the relevant result. Check again after editing. This tool counts Unicode code points; the destination may count differently, so use the destination form’s own count for final submission.
Remove duplicate entries from a list
For a list with one entry per line, leading or trailing spaces can make matching names appear different. Choose whitespace trimming and case sensitivity before removing duplicates. Different people can share the same name, so names alone are unsuitable when you need to identify individuals.
Review the cleaned list
Keep the original list and compare the line count and a sample of entries before and after processing. Removing duplicates and sorting are separate actions. If the order matters, leave sorting off. Check how blank lines and whitespace-only lines are handled.
Recommended operation sequence
- Character counter — Check the number of characters including and excluding spaces and UTF-8 bytes at once.
- Duplicate line remover — Clean up overlapping lines and make the list neater.
